罗伯特·约翰逊有6首歌涉及魔鬼和一些神灵，最出名的是《Me and Devil Blues》和《Crossroad Blues》。除了前者歌词中提到的魔鬼撒旦是基督教的ICON之外，《Crossroad Blues》里讲的还有可能是巫毒教中的雷格巴老爹（PaPa Legba）。雷格巴老爹是西非和海地巫毒教中的神灵，是连接人类跟巫毒教的大神罗亚（Loa）的媒介，巫毒教仪式开始和结束的时候都会祭祀这位神灵。他也是十字路口之神，常常被描述成一个穿着破烂，拄着拐杖的狡诈老人，在乡村的十字路口向人讲授神谕。狗是他的象征动物。
